Stomach Flu 2024. The medical term is viral gastroenteritis. Viral gastroenteritis is an intestinal infection that includes signs and symptoms such as watery diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea or vomiting, and sometimes fever.

This condition, often called stomach flu, is usually harmless, except for infants and people with immunosuppression. What norovirus isn’t, however, is the stomach flu — despite what you might read or hear to the contrary.
